Explore Chicago's South Side vegan-friendly eateries with friendly bicyclists when the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation and EarthSave Chicago host the fourth annual Veggie Bike and Dine on July 14, 2007, starting at 11:30 a.m. in Jackson Park.
The Veggie Bike and Dine celebrates healthy dining and the diversity of Chicago's neighborhoods while celebrating bicycling's vital relationship to food, socializing, and civic life. The menus are entirely plant-based and exclusive of meat, fish, dairy products, eggs and other animal products. Registration is $50 for Chicagoland Bicycle Federation and EarthSave Chicago members and includes a tour of the historic Pullman district. Non-members pay $55. This event will sell out.

The third annual Veggie Bike and Dine is 1 to 5 p.m. July 22 and starts at Turin Bicycle, 1027 Davis St. (Evanston). Food stops include Ten Thousand Villages, 719 Main St. (Evanston); Lake Side Cafe, 1418 W. Howard St. (Rogers Park); Heartland Café, 7000 N. Glenwood Ave. (Rogers Park); Mysore Woodlands, 2548 W. Devon Ave. (West Rogers Park); and Ras Dashen, 5846 N. Broadway (Edgewater).
Veggie Bike and Cook Saturday, June 17, 2006
Veggie Bike and Cook is 1 to 6 p.m. June 17 and begins at Karyn's Cooked, 738 N. Wells St. (Near North Side) with a light lunch. The ride stops at Argo Tea, 958 W. Armitage Ave. (Lincoln Park) for an afternoon tea before heading to The Chopping Block, 4747 N. Lincoln Ave. (Lincoln Square) for a two-hour vegan cooking class. All riders get a gift card from Argo Tea.
Veggie Bike and Recycle Thursday, Dec. 15, 11:30 a.m.
The Chicagoland Bicycle Federation and EarthSave Chicago built the Veggie Bike and Recycle around a tour of the Chicago Blue Bag Recycling Program, 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Dec. 15, Chicago Sorting Center, 3757 W. 34th St., Chicago. The event included an 18-mile winter bike ride, tour of the Sorting Center, and prix fixe Szechwan vegan lunch ($13) at Lao Sze Chuan, 2172 S. Archer Ave., Chicago. See the photos of the tour. A co-production of the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation and EarthSave Chicago, the second annual Veggie Bike and Dine put 50 bicycle riders on Chicago streets and eating conscious food at the doorsteps of Karyn's Cooked, Lao Sze Chuan, May Street Café and Supreme Oasis. Before the ride, author Margaret Littman signed copies of "VegOut: Vegetarian Guide to Chicago," at Green City Market in Lincoln Park where riders enjoyed the farmers' market with coffee from Intelligentsia.
